Volunteers are appreciated.

The Village of Ashley Country Christmas ended the 2018 season with our volunteer appreciation dinner on Jan 6th.  We started the 2018 season with a bang when we celebrated our 100th North Pole Express train trip.  We started the evening with a lot of give aways and ended the night by giving the key to the village to SRI executive director Kim Springsdorf.
2018 brought a new experience.  On Nov. 17th, while the North Pole Express was in Ashley, there was a derailment in Owosso.  The train could not get back to the station but the Owosso community responded with buses and drivers to pick up the passengers just outside of Owosso and deliver them back to the station.
We wish to thank Duane Zammaron and Mlive for two cool video’s about the Country Christmas which you can find on our Facebook page or on You Tube.  We also received coverage from Channel 25 which sent a news team to Ashley to interview some of our volunteers.
Our volunteer appreciation dinner is the final event of the season.  We greatly appreciate all of our volunteers for all of their hard work.  This year we had 78 returning volunteers and 24 new volunteers.  Our volunteers don’t just work the five weekends while the train is in town.  We usually start our work bees in September and we have people who are there for every work day.
